Fairfield, CA

Fairfield, conveniently positioned in the North Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, is halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. With a population of 117,080, this city combines the charms of smaller-town living with big-city industry’s benefits. Fairfield’s economy is diverse with big government, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, and retail. This wholesome city with affordable housing is also known as a manufacturing hub due to the major companies that have factories there: Clorox, Jelly Belly Candy Co., and even an Anheuser-Busch brewery.

Clipper-ship captain Robert Waterman founded Fairfield in 1856; he named it after his hometown, Fairfield, Connecticut. Waterman founded this city after several failed attempts to establish a port city nearby. He made good on his promise to donate sixteen acres of land for the town to build county buildings on, and in 1903, the town became officially incorporated.

Jelly Belly Candy Co. and Anheuser-Busch offer tours of their expansive facilities. Jelly Belly offers personal-guided and self-guided tours of their factory. Anheuser-Busch offers a Complimentary Tour, Day Fresh Tour, Beer School, Beermaster Tour, History Tour, and The Biergarten. Those are unique and exciting attractions, but that’s not the only entertainment Fairfield has to offer. The Lawler House Gallery is a great place to view art. You can go swimming at the Aquatics Complex at Allan Witt Park, see a movie at Edward’s Fairfield Stadium 16 Cinema, or catch a comedy show at PepperBelly’s Comedy and Variety Theater.

Also, within city limits, there are three huge parks: Cordelia Community Park, Laurel Creek Community Park, and Allan Witt Community Park. There are also three trails: the Laurel Creek Trail, Ledgewood Creek Trail, and the Linear Bike Trail, which runs throughout the city to Solano College.

The Suisun Valley wineries are right in town too. Visit the Suisun Valley farm stands for fresh produce and homemade goods. For a fun shopping trip, visit the downtown Fairfield or North Texas Street shopping districts, and the Westfield Solano Shopping Mall. After shopping, grab a meal at one of Fairfield’s top-rated restaurants: Chez Soul, Joe’s Buffet, Koong Jyun Korean BBQ, or Alejandro’s Taqueria. In the mood for a day trip? This town is close to Napa Valley Wine Country, Monterey, San Jose, Lake Berryessa, Lake Tahoe, and Solano Park.
