Termite Inspections

Termites All Around
California has at least 23 different types of termites. Out in the woods, termites munch on decaying wood from fallen trees or stumps. But once they make it to your home, they'll munch right through your walls, floorboards, and furniture instead. The University of California (UC) says the three types of termites found most frequently in the state are Drywood Termites, which are likely to attack your furniture; Subterranean Termites, which come through the soil and chew right through the floorboards into your building; and Dampwood Termites, which flock toward saturated wood near water leaks, and make you regret not taking that dripping line more seriously.

Termites can be confused with ants because of their dark bodies and white wings. But the bite termites bring is one that will sting much more than an ant's in the long run. The Integrated Pest Management Program at UC ranks termites as one of the most feared pests among homeowners in California. That program within UC's Agriculture and Natural Resources division recommends getting inspections done every three to five years to protect your property from being damaged beyond repair by the frightful insects. It also warns that do-it-yourself inspections and solutions rarely ever work and put your home at risk.

Catch The Problem Early
Most banking loans for homes in California also require that the building first be inspected by a licensed professional. That's because, as the Structural Pest Control Board of California warns, termite infestations can go unnoticed for years, and it takes a licensed professional to notice the early signs, catching the problem before it gets out of hand. At Cascade Pest Systems, we start our termite inspections by doing a visual examination of the outside perimeter of the building. If you have a fence, we'll make sure there are no infestations along the area where it attaches to the structure. Inside the home, we go through every single room, looking in corners, crannies, and closets. We'll do a thorough check of the garage and check for leaks. We'll inspect the attic and any accessible crawlspace as well. Goodness knows no one has been down there for a while!

From there, we'll give you a report, divided into three subsections: Section 1: active infestations such as evidence of termite infestations, dry rot and wood boring beetles , Section 2: which is conditions conducive to active infestations like roof leaks, plumbing leaks, earth to wood contacts and failed caulking, and Further Inspection: which were areas that were inaccessible during the initial walk-through that will require a supplemental inspection. We'll detail what we found, write out our recommendations for how to proceed, and add in any informational notes we feel are relevant.
